Hand crafted ceramic artworks by Tantri Mustika
The Ukiran (carved) collection represents Tantri’s first substantive engagement with her Balinese heritage through ceramics. The on-going series explores the intersection of cultural identity and artistic expression.
"I wanted to take this opportunity to lean into exploring my cultural identity and figure out how my Balinese heritage informs my creative expression," Mustika explains. The collection draws inspiration from Balinese art traditions, particularly the rich history of carving, which she discovered aligned naturally with her practice.”

MARMOREAL
The technical aspects of the Marmoreal series showcase Tantri’s approach to clay manipulation. Her marbled clay technique develops complexity through grid-like expressions, checkered patterning, and striped arrangements that flow across undulating forms, creating what she describes as "a deliberate tension between strict patterning and organic movement."
"These works represent a significant shift in my approach to making. They allowed me to demonstrate technical proficiency while pursuing deeper artistic exploration. This transition from production-based practice to more contemplative creation marked a development in my artistic journey.”
NERIKOMI
The Nerikomi collection represents Tantri Mustika's exploration of the traditional Japanese clay patterning technique from which it takes its name. What began as experimental pieces using clay offcuts evolved into a body of work that brings together historical technique with contemporary expression.
"I discovered a new way of pattern making while still working with marbled coloured clay," Mustika reflects on the collection's turning point, marked by two pieces created for FOND in 2022. These works established the collection's interplay of precise patterning and organic variation.
TERRAZZO
The distinctive Terrazzo work of ceramicist Tantri Mustika began with a single experimental wall vase. What started as an intuitive exploration evolved over time into her signature style, recognised for its reimagining of traditional terrazzo patterns through a thoughtful approach to colour and form.
"I created something I hadn't seen before – something I would want to own myself," Mustika reflects on that first piece. This personal benchmark guided her aesthetic development, leading to a collection that expands ceramic possibilities.
